Battle Betts,” Jr., MPA, ARHS Health Vaccination Clinic to be Held Today FROM STAFF REPORTS A first dose Mass Vaccina tion Clinic will be held today, Thursday Jan 28, beginning at 9 a.m. until supplies are deplet ed. The clinic will be held at the Perquimans County Recreation Center located at 310 Granby Street in Hertford. Residents that are 65 and over, healthcare providers, and first responders are welcome to attend on a first come, first served basis. No registration is needed for first dose vaccina tion clinics. “Wait times could be ex tended so we encourage you to bring snacks, bottled water, and a book or some form of entertainment to help with the wait,” Perquimans Emergen cy Services Director Jonathan Nixon said. Two portable toilets have also been placed along the traf fic route for your use. Please be patient with as these folks are working hard to ensure that all of residents receive their vacci nation as quickly as possible. Though the rest of the week was filled with grey skies, the weekend looks promising in Perquimans County. Thursday it will tie partly sunny with temps provided on a first come, first served basis. ARHS is receiving vaccine weekly and are working to es tablish clinics to meet demand region wide based on current priority groups. Second Dose Clinics: Albemarle Regional Health Services and county partners will hold drive through Pfizer second dose clinics as noted on the schedule below. First dose vaccinations will NOT be provided at these clinics. Clinics are open to ranging from 25 to 42 degrees. Friday, it will be sunny with temps ranging between 23 and 43 degrees. Saturday will be mostly sun ny with temps ranging between 23 and 43 degrees. There is a 70 percent chance of rain on Sunday with temps ranging between 43 and 49 degrees. They are conducting GED classes, Landscaping and Plumbing apprentice training BROWN and has offered to include our Hertford citizens. Classes are free for ages 16 to 24. Classes will be held in Elizabeth City, on Tuesday and Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. YOUTH BUILD, a component of River City CDC, will provide transportation for our young people, from Hertford to Eliz abeth City and return. According to Camden Sher iff Kevin Jones, the chase be gan in Chesapeake, Virginia, and continued on U.S. High way 17 through four northeast ern counties before ending in Edenton shortly before 1 a.m. Jones said his deputies joined the pursuit after Vol. 87, No. 4 PerquimansWeekly.com @2021 Perquimans Weekly All Rights Reserved Chesapeake police notified Pasquotank-Camden Central Communications at 12:16 a.m. that they were pursuing a sto len 2013 Ford F-130 pickup truck. Jones said his deputies, us ing spiked “stop strips,” at tempted to stop the pickup on U.S. 17 somewhere in the vicinity of the Horseshoe Road intersection. The driver of the stolen vehicle, however, man aged to avoid the strips by driving over into a turn lane and going around them, Jones said. At some point while still in Camden, a deputy tried to pass the truck and get in front of it, Jones said. The driver of the pickup, however, swerved to the right, causing the truck to collide with the side of the deputy’s vehicle. The deputy wasn’t injured and continued the pursuit, Jones said. Damage to the ve hicle was later estimated at about $3,000. When the chase en tered Pasquotank County, Pasquotank deputies also joined the pursuit. After the truck passed into Perquim ans County, Camden deputies attempted to stop the truck a second time with the stop strips near Winfall but were unsuccessful, Jones said. A third attempt just after the truck and pursuing deputy ve hicles crossed the Perquimans River Bridge and entered Hert ford was partly successful, Jones said.
